Gas laws, labels and you!

The gas standard requires warnings, administrative controls, labels and plates!

Sometimes the size of the font is stipulated, sometimes the material is controlled, sometimes it is required to be legible, permanent, and durable, and usually the location is controlled.  The requirements vary, but labels are not optional.

Individual Requirements

Hopefully the following will simplify some of these areas.

It will tell you where to look in your copy of the gas standard and provide an avenue for compliance via compliant gas stickers and plates available in the RV Merchandise Catalogue.

Clause 6.11.4

A label is required adjacent to the cooker and must be clearly visible – the font must be at a minimum 4mm.
This is available from the RV Merchandise Catalogue item C-5B.

Clause 6.11.4 also calls for the following warning in a prominent position.
The standard calls for the label to be permanent and durable. This compliance label is available from the RV Merchandise Catalogue item C-5C.

Clause 6.15 requires a label with 5mm font beside the caravan door.
This compliance label is available from RV Merchandise Catalogue item C-5H.

Clause 3.3.1 (i) and clause 3.3.2 call for warning label inside the gas locker using 10 mm font.
This compliance label is available from the RV Merchandise Catalogue item C-5F.

Clause 7.7 calls for a vent warning label stating the vent must remain open and clean.
Font needs to be minimum 4mm and it must be beside both the top and bottom vents (see ventilation section clauses 7.4.2 and 7.4.3).

Clause 3.3.5 calls for the gas cylinder compartment to be clearly identified and specifies the size and colour of the font.
This item is available as either a metal plate (item C-6) or a sticker (item C-6S) from the RV Merchandise Catalogue.

Clause 10.1 Gas Compliance plate.
Every vehicle must have a gas compliance plate. It must be metal and durable, resistant to ultraviolet radiation and resistant to corrosion with legible letters of 4mm minimum. The placement must be visible and prominent. It is required for new installation and for any modification or addition. It can never be removed. If any further certificate is added following a modification etc. an additional plate is required. This is available from RV Merchandise Catalogue item C-5G.

Clause 10.2 and 1.3.17 requires a “Warning Label” which is legible, durable, and permanent to be placed visibly in the controlled are surrounding the cylinders.
The RV Merchandise Catalogue provides a metal plate for this purpose. Here the reader should note that some manufacturers have received non-conformance reports by regulators for using vinyl stickers, considered by the regulators to be unsuitable.

Clause 10.3.1 calls for a general warning sticker to be placed prominently in the area of a gas appliance.  This is available from RV Merchandise Catalogue item C-5A.
