Gas legislation in each state and territory jurisdiction requires recreational vehicle installations to comply with the following Australian Standard:
AS/NZS 5601.2:2020 Gas Installations, Part 2: LP Gas installations in caravans and boats for non-propulsive purposes.
Gas equipment on a recreational vehicle is considered to be an “installation” when it includes any mounted appliances and/or piping of gas from the LP gas cylinder throughout the vehicle. Any appliances connected to a gas bayonet are also considered to be part of the installation (and so are subject to the requirement of the standard).
Gas installation work must be completed by an appropriately qualified and certified gas fitter, in line with the qualification and licensing requirements of each local state and territory jurisdiction.
Compliance of a gas installation is confirmed by the presence of a completed certification plate. The certification plate must be completed by the installing gas fitter and must record their license number and the relevant details of the installation.
Note: some jurisdictions may also require additional certificates eg VBA certificates in Victoria.
